Range booking

The reason clubs switch

A member wants a lane on Saturday morning. They open the app, tap the slot, and it is theirs. If the signal drops halfway through, the booking still happens — and they are told the truth about whether they got it.

How it behaves

  • First come, first served — actually

The last place in a slot goes to whoever got there first by the server's clock, not to whoever's phone happened to be quickest to upload. Capacity is checked and held on the server, under a lock, so two members tapping at the same instant cannot both take the last place.

  • Offline does not mean jumping the queue

A booking made at 18:00 in a dead spot and sent at 20:00 takes its turn at 20:00. It does not get to skip ahead of the member who had a signal at 19:00. That is the honest ordering, and it is the whole point of the design.

  • Told plainly when it loses

If the slot filled while the phone was offline, the member is told what happened and offered the next available slot. No error code, no blame, no silent failure where nobody knows whether they have a lane.

  • Money is never queued

Payments and Direct Debits always need a live connection. A member is never left wondering whether they have paid, and the club's accounts never contain a payment that only exists on someone's phone.
